Federal Actions
Take these actions to support federal legislation and NFP nurses nationwide:
- Contact your senators to request immediate emergency funding for the Maternal, Infant, Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program.
- MIECHV is one of NFP’s largest sources of funding. The ongoing COVID-19 has put a strain on NFP nurses and the families they serve. It is imperative that Congress provide more resources and flexibility for NFP nurses to respond to families’ growing health concerns.
- Contact your senators today to urge them to:
- Pass a one-time $100 million appropriation for MIECHV – These funds can be used to train nurses and home visitors to deliver services through technology that enables home visits from a distance, as well as tangible needs for families including technology, formula, diapers, etc.
- Permit telehealth and virtual visits to be considered home visits through the end of the calendar year to safely preserve valuable relationships without being penalized
- Maintain all funding for and staffing levels of MIECHV programs regardless of potential temporary reductions in enrollment to preserve the existing home visiting infrastructure
