Oregon’s Nurse-Family Partnership serves first-time, low-income women families in Multnomah County.
Nurse-Family Partnership nurse home visitors work with low-income young women who are pregnant with their first child, helping these vulnerable young clients achieve healthier pregnancies and births, stronger child development, and a path toward economic self-sufficiency. Nurse-Family Partnership is a rare community health program that has been documented to achieve lasting and significant effects through multiple, well-designed randomized, controlled trials. More than 37 years of research demonstrates that it works.
Nurse-Family Partnership in Oregon
The first NFP team of four nurses began serving women in Multnomah County as an Oregon charity in 1996. Today, the team has grown to 18 nurses, ensuring that many more vulnerable women can work with a nurse home visitor of their own. One-third of the NFP nurse home visitors are bilingual in English and Spanish, providing NFP to often underserved Latino families. An additional agency, located in Bend, began serving clients in Crook, Deschutes and Jefferson Counties in 2011.
