Delaware has historically had one of the highest infant mortality rates in the nation. That’s why community leaders saw a need for a program such as Nurse-Family Partnership.

Delaware’s infant mortality rate was recently reported as 8.5 per 1,000 births. Teen birth rates are also high. These reasons and others compelled Children & Families First, a statewide nonprofit agency dedicated to helping families develop solutions to meet challenges and embrace opportunities, to launch the first Nurse-Family Partnership in 2010. The team of NFP Nurse Home Visitors currently provides services to families in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties.

Nurse-Family Partnership in Delaware

Nurse-Family Partnership is a rare community health program that has been documented to achieve lasting significant effects through multiple, well-designed randomized, controlled trials. More than 37 years of research proves that it works. This evidence shows our clients — low-income, first-time mothers — that if they follow the program and work with their nurse, they can transform their lives and the lives of their children.
