Oklahoma has been a leader in evidence-based home visitation. The state was one of the earliest implementers of Nurse-Family Partnership; in Oklahoma, it’s called “Children First.”
Children First – Oklahoma’s Nurse-Family Partnership (C1) was created in 1996 as a deterrent to child maltreatment and a means to improving children’s health and well-being. Originally piloted in four counties, C1 is now delivered through the statewide county health department system. Since 1996, the program (which is administered by the Oklahoma State Department of Health) has served more than 35,000 families.
